The saleroom in Carmarthen had more than a buzz about it this week as a crowd reminiscent of the pre-internet days descended to compete for an excellent range of lots and to see the BBC Flog It team in action. Although one of our regular fortnightly mixed sales of antiques and collectables this particular offering included a really good cross section of quality lots. Including some ‘sleeper’ lots and the items brought in by Flog It, some of which were of excellent quality.
The saleroom was packed and very noisy but had a great atmosphere, something often missing in the slightly clinical way live internet sales run these day. A beautiful diamond five stone ring led the day at £1600*. The most unusual lot was a pair of Wedgwood Arts & Crafts plates bought for £2 in a car boot sale! These were knocked down at £1400*. A really good French claret jug with silver mount was bought on the phone at £620*. A Flog It client entered a German live steam tinplate road roller which made £500* and a good Persian rug also made £500*. Overall an exceedingly busy sale with total sales of over £50,000 on the day.
Our next sale on the 22nd November is already being set out with many interesting lots waiting to be catalogued. The quarterly Antiques & Fine Art auction on the 6th December is in process of being catalogued and final lots need to be with us by the end of next week (entries close 17th November). Special commission rates apply for lots with agreed estimates in excess of £1000.
