CIRCLE OF PABLO PICASSO (SPANISH, 1881-1973), cubist portrait of a woman peering round a corner, signed and dated '38, white through black scratchboard, associated frame. 7" x 7" approx. Provenance:- Originally from the estate of Baron Avro Manhatten (Italian, 1914-1990), flamboyant writer and philosopher best known for his criticism of The Roman Catholic Church. Well known for his friendship with Picasso (in Paris) as well as H.G.Wells, George Bernard Shaw and other notable figures. Lived much of his later life after 1979 in South Shields where he died in 1990. Items from his estate passed to his wife and were disposed of on her death by her executors in a sale at Anderson and Garland of Newcastle in 2009. This work was part of lot 153 in that sale. Consigned by a local vendor who acquired it subsequent to the auction, as an individual item.
